Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« community at-large:

  • ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«'s are the best way for high school juniors and seniors to see and experience first-hand what it's like being cadet at ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«. Space is very limited for the first weekend event, Oct. 11-12, and Oct. 25-26 and Nov. 15-16 are also filling up fast. Register today to secure your spot!
  • The Board of Visitors has created a committee to select the next recipient of the Jonathan Myrick Daniels ’61 Humanitarian Award. The award emphasizes the virtue of humanitarian public service and recognizes individuals who have made significant personal sacrifices to protect or improve the lives of others. Information on how to nominate an individual for this prestigious award is now available.
  • Family Weekend at the Institute is a little over a month away, and daily schedules have been posted. Events this year include: classroom visits; jazz band, glee club, and theater performances; rifle, soccer, and rugby matches; a parade; and Saturday's big event - The Military Classic of the South as ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« football hosts The Citadel Bulldogs.   • The ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«Board of Visitors is conducting meetings on Sept. 16 - 18, 2024, during the times indicated on the meeting schedule posted in the Upcoming Meetings section of the ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« Board of Visitors website. All meetings will be held at various locations throughout the ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«in Lexington, Va. in accordance with the meeting schedule. ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«business will be discussed by the members in attendance. The meeting is open to the public.

Virginia Military Institute’s Center for Leadership and Ethics (CLE) will host a Steamboat Institute Campus Liberty Tour Debate, Thursday, Oct. 3 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Gillis Theater, Marshall Hall.  

ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« Cadets Continue Tradition of 9/11 Stair Climb

Nearly 800 ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«cadets honored those who perished in the 9/11 terrorist attacks by energetically ascending and descending the steps in barracks from 1st stoop to 4th stoop 37 times, replicating the 110 stories the first responders at the World Trade Center climbed.

ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ« Debate on Immigration Open to the Community

ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«invites the greater Lexington and Rockbridge community to participate in a debate on immigration Sept. 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. in ÑÇÖÞÇéÉ«’s Marshall Hall. The question being debated is “Should undocumented immigrants to the U.S. be accommodated or deported?”

Kent Featured on “With Good Reason”

Maj. Molly Kent, assistant professor in the Department of Biology, will discuss the level of stress in rats based on their home and lifestyle, and what these lessons have taught her about human stress, on the public radio program, “With Good Reason,” Sept. 7-14.
